Open-source macOS AI IDE that runs Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Cursor and Grok in parallel, each task in its own git worktree

Key differences

Open-source macOS AI IDE that runs Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Cursor and Grok in parallel, each task in its own git worktree

  • Runs local and cloud. Open source under AGPL-3 and free to download; you bring your own subscriptions or keys for the agents it runs
  • Runs multiple agents. Listed for 165 of 194 tools in this category.
  • Keep in mind: Browser Use and Computer Use are listed among the integrations shared across agents.

What it is

Proliferate gives every task an isolated git worktree with its own branch, terminal, conversation and review state, so several coding agents work side by side in one workspace without stepping on each other. Each agent runs through its native harness rather than a reimplementation, agents can delegate scoped work to subagents and collect the results, and MCP servers, skills, Computer Use, Browser Use and custom tools are configured once and shared by every agent. Workflows schedule recurring or event-driven runs such as nightly review passes, alert triage and dependency bumps.

Los Agentes on Proliferate

Who are they?
The ruling
El JuezThe judge

El Crítico and La Jefa both mark it down and for opposite reasons, one because scheduled runs happen on a desk and one because the desk has to be a Mac.

Adopt with conditions
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

El Crítico objects that recurring runs execute on a workstation with no isolation around them. La Jefa objects that the workstation must be a Mac, which excludes part of her fleet before the security review starts. El Amigo answers neither, because for one developer with one laptop neither objection exists.

El Amigo wins for the individual, which is who this is built for, and La Jefa is overruled on relevance rather than on fact. El Crítico is not overruled at all. Adopt with conditions, the condition being that scheduled runs stay on branches nobody merges without reading.

El AmigoThe friend

Pick it if you want several agents working at once and each behaving exactly as its own CLI does; pick Warren if the runs belong on a server rather than your laptop.

7.3
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

The deciding trait is that every agent runs through its own harness rather than a reimplementation of it. Your prompts, your habits and the quirks you have learned all carry over, and when something behaves oddly you can reproduce it in the terminal instead of wondering whether the wrapper changed something.

What you are accepting is one machine doing five agents' worth of work, with the fan noise to match. Pick it if parallel tasks are your real bottleneck. Pick Warren if you would rather push the work somewhere it can run without you.

El CríticoThe critic

Workflows schedule recurring and event-driven runs, and those agents execute on your machine with no container boundary documented anywhere around them.

6.3
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

Scheduling changes the threat model and the product does not change with it. An agent you watch is constrained by you noticing; an agent that wakes at three in the morning is constrained by whatever the harness allows, which is your shell, your keys and your filesystem. No isolation layer is documented, so the blast radius of a bad nightly run is the machine you work on.

What it does right is the worktree per task. Concurrent branches cannot collide, and a bad run is thrown away by deleting a directory.

Tools, skills and servers are configured once and shared by every agent, so behaviour differences between five harnesses are attributable to the harnesses rather than to their setup.

7.0
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis
  1. A shared configuration surface across heterogeneous agents is quietly the most useful property here, because it holds the environment constant. Comparing two agents that were configured separately compares two experiments; comparing two that read the same tool definitions compares the agents. 2. Delegation is scoped, with results collected back to the parent, so a subagent's context is bounded by construction rather than by prompt discipline.

  2. No evaluation is published, and the design claims are structural, which is the consistent pairing.

A named company with 462 stars, a free download and no published price, which means the revenue model is still ahead of it rather than behind it.

Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

A company shipping a free client with no visible commercial layer is either pre-monetisation or pre-decision, and from outside those look identical. The copyleft terms are the tell: they keep a competitor from shipping a closed derivative, which is what you do when you intend to sell something adjacent later.

Moat: the workflow habit, if teams build schedules they do not want to rewrite. Likely acquirer: a vendor that owns one of the five agents and wants the surface around it. Position: use it, and expect a paid tier to appear where the automation is.

The download is macOS only, so a third of my engineers are excluded before we start, and sixty seats means sixty separate agent subscriptions we already pay for.

Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

Platform coverage decides this before anything else does. A tool that runs on one operating system splits the organisation into people who have it and people who file tickets about not having it, and I have spent years removing that pattern rather than adding it.

The money is not the client, which is free, but the underlying agent subscriptions it drives, already sixty lines on an invoice and unchanged by adopting this. There is no directory integration and no console. Not yet: revisit when the other platforms ship.

AGPL-3.0, an MCP client, and Computer Use and Browser Use shared across every agent, with my own keys and subscriptions doing the paying.

7.8
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

Copyleft on a desktop client is a stronger promise than a permissive licence would be here, because it means any hosted derivative owes the source back. MCP servers I already run attach once and every agent inherits them, which removes the tedium of configuring the same three tools five times.

Browser and computer control sit in the same shared layer, so an agent that needs a page gets one without me wiring a bespoke tool. Credentials stay mine throughout, which is the part I check first and the part most products fail.
