Java coding agent from the Solon team that runs as a CLI, a local web UI or a Tauri desktop IDE, with Skills, MCP, LSP and ACP

Key differences

Java coding agent from the Solon team that runs as a CLI, a local web UI or a Tauri desktop IDE, with Skills, MCP, LSP and ACP

  • Runs local. Free and open source under MIT; you add your own model provider on the Settings page, and the CLI ships pointed at deepseek-v4-flash
  • Runs local models. Listed for 66 of 125 tools in this category.
  • Runs multiple agents. Listed for 81 of 125 tools in this category.
  • Keep in mind: Published on Gitee first, with a mirror at github.com/opensolon/soloncode.

“The command line ships pointed at a cheap default model, which is the most realistic assumption any of these tools has made about its users.”

What it is

SolonCode is an open-source coding agent written in Java on top of Solon AI, and it is developed on Gitee first with a GitHub mirror. One install gives three front ends against the same agent runtime: soloncode cli for the terminal, soloncode web for a browser UI, and SolonCode Desktop, a Tauri client with agent conversations, a Monaco editor, an integrated terminal, Git change review and task execution. Its work modes are approval execution, automatic editing, read-only planning and persistent Goal execution, with queued follow-up tasks, per-response model, token and time statistics, long-term memory, rewind, redo and recoverable workspace checkpoints. The extensible runtime covers Skills, Agents, MCP, OpenAPI, LSP, automations and channel binding, and ACP handles remote communication. It runs on Java 8 through 26, is compatible with Huawei's BiSheng JDK, and its installer covers Harmony PC alongside macOS, Linux and Windows. The maintainers frame it directly against Claude Code: same shape, Java, fully open source, provider agnostic, and Chinese-prompt-driven.

Los Agentes on SolonCode

Who are they?
The ruling
El JuezThe judge

El Amigo found the undo button and El Crítico found the compatibility matrix, and the second decides whether the first works on your machine.

Adopt with conditions
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

El Amigo's case is the checkpoint mechanism: an agent whose work can be rewound is an agent you can let run. El Crítico's case is that the same code claims to support a span of language versions no small team can test, so behaviour on any given one is a hope, and checkpoints are the feature you least want version-specific.

El Crítico wins on sequencing: the undo has to work before it earns trust, and El Amigo is not overruled so much as made conditional. El Hacker's protocol coverage is the best thing here. Adopt with conditions, the condition being that you verify a rewind on your own runtime first.

El AmigoThe friend

Pick it if you want an agent you can rewind after it goes wrong; pick a diff-review tool if you would rather it never got that far.

6.5
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

The deciding trait is that mistakes are recoverable. Workspace checkpoints with rewind and redo mean a session that wanders off is a keystroke away from where it was, instead of an evening spent working out which of forty files it touched. That single capability changes how much rope you are willing to give an agent, which changes what you use it for.

The surrounding product is broad and young. Pick it if you like giving an agent room. Pick a stricter tool if you would rather approve every line.

El CríticoThe critic

It claims support across language runtimes from version 8 to 26 plus an alternative vendor build, which is a test matrix no small team actually covers.

5.0
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

Breadth of runtime support is a promise that gets made once and paid for forever. Eighteen major versions and a separate vendor implementation is a combinatorial surface, and defects in this category are exactly the kind that appear on one runtime and not another: file handling, concurrency, process launching. Nothing in the row records which versions are actually tested.

What it does right is separating the work modes. Read-only planning and approval execution are distinct states rather than a single mood the agent is in.

El ProfesorThe professor

Model, token and time statistics are reported per response, which is measurement built into the interaction rather than an estimate produced afterwards.

6.0
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis
  1. Per-response instrumentation is the cheapest useful evaluation there is: it lets a user attribute expense to a specific exchange rather than to a session, which is the granularity at which behaviour can actually be changed. 2. It also makes the model attribution explicit, so a poor answer can be traced to which model produced it.

  2. The project positions itself directly against a well-known competitor and publishes no comparison of any kind. Having built the instrumentation, the absence of a measurement is conspicuous.

La InversoraThe investor

A framework team shipping an agent, published on a domestic code host first with a mirror abroad, and released in February 2026 with no adoption recorded yet.

6.0
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

This is ecosystem defence, and it is rational. A team that maintains an application framework watches agents become the surface through which code gets written, and an agent that speaks their framework's language keeps their community inside their world. The tool exists to protect something else that already has users.

Moat: the framework community, which is real and not visible from the star count. Likely acquirer: none; this is not for sale. Likely path: maintained as long as the parent project is. Position: safe to try if you are already inside that ecosystem.

La JefaThe CTO

One installation produces three separate surfaces, a terminal, a browser interface and a desktop client, each of which I would have to govern differently.

5.3
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

Three front ends against one runtime is convenient for an engineer and triples the surface I have to reason about. A local web interface in particular is a listening service on sixty machines, and nothing in the row tells me what binds to what or who can reach it on a shared network.

There is no single sign-on, no directory sync and no audit export, and it does not run unattended, so it stays a desktop tool rather than a delivery stage. Licence cost across the team is zero. Not yet: I need the web surface documented before anything else.

El HackerThe tinkerer

MIT, and it speaks the tool protocol, OpenAPI, the language server protocol and the agent protocol, with a settings page that takes a local endpoint.

7.5
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

Four protocols is not a feature list, it is a posture. Tools I already run attach, existing HTTP services become callable without a wrapper, editor intelligence feeds the agent real symbols instead of guesses, and it can act as a subordinate inside another stack. Very little here requires me to write glue.

And the provider is a field I fill in, so pointing it at weights on my own machine is a settings change rather than a fork. Permissive terms on top of that. This is the most connectable tool on the page.
