#92 overall#42 terminal agentverified Sep 4, 20261.4.0

Globant's terminal coding agent with parallel subagents, worktree checkpoints, MCP, ACP and a headless mode for CI

Key differences

Globant's terminal coding agent with parallel subagents, worktree checkpoints, MCP, ACP and a headless mode for CI

  • Runs local. The vendor lists Core, Plus and Max tiers but publishes no amounts on its pricing page
  • Supports headless CI workflows. Listed for 55 of 125 tools in this category.
  • Runs local models. Listed for 66 of 125 tools in this category.
  • Keep in mind: The npm package declares its licence as "SEE LICENSE IN README.md" and links Globant's enterprise terms of use.

“It ships a musl build for Linux arm64, which is how you know a real release engineer was involved and probably tired.”

What it is

CODA is the terminal coding agent from Globant, the Argentine software engineering firm. Its documented session loop is read files and plan the approach, edit files and run shell commands, then save a checkpoint, and the vendor sums it up as reading your codebase, working out what needs to change and getting it done. The Bash tool runs tests, linters, build scripts and git operations; checkpoints are built on git worktrees and require Git 2.5.0 or later; subagents let a subtask be delegated to another CODA agent running in parallel; MCP servers are configured in .coda/mcp.json; skills and hooks extend it; --auto-approve controls how much runs unattended; and it can be run headlessly inside scripts and CI pipelines. It speaks the Agent Client Protocol so Zed and the JetBrains IDEs can host it, and a companion VS Code extension exists. Binaries are signed and notarised for macOS on both architectures, Linux x64 and arm64 against glibc and musl, and Windows x64.

Los Agentes on Globant CODA

Who are they?
The ruling
El JuezThe judge

La Jefa and La Inversora both stopped at the missing number and drew opposite conclusions from it. El Profesor is the only one who scored the thing itself.

Adopt with conditions
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

La Inversora reads a tier list without amounts as evidence about what the vendor actually sells. La Jefa reads the same page as a procurement dead end and refuses to model a budget on it. El Profesor sets both aside and marks the loop high, because the loop is documented step by step and does not depend on knowing the price.

La Jefa is right that you cannot buy what you cannot price, and she does not overrule El Profesor, she postpones him. El Hacker's escape hatch is what makes the delay survivable. Adopt with conditions, the condition being a written quote for your seat count first.

El AmigoThe friend

Pick CODA if you want a terminal agent that also drops into Zed or a JetBrains window on demand; pick Claude Code if you would rather know what a month costs before you start.

6.3
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

The deciding trait is that it is not only a terminal agent. It speaks the protocol editors use to host agents, so the same session you started in a shell can be driven from Zed or from your JetBrains window, and there is a marketplace extension when you want the panel instead. Most terminal tools make you choose once and live with it.

What you will feel is that everything about buying it happens in a conversation. Pick it if you already have a relationship with the vendor. Pick a self-serve tool if you do not.

The undo mechanism is a git worktree and needs Git 2.5.0 or later, so a checkpoint covers what git already tracks and nothing else, in a repository that must exist.

6.0
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

The safety net has a documented shape and the shape has holes. Checkpoints are built on worktrees, which means an untracked file the agent created, a generated artefact, or anything outside the repository boundary is not part of what gets restored. Run it with the approval flag turned down in a directory that is not a checkout and there is no rollback at all.

What it does right is say so. The dependency on a specific Git version is published rather than discovered, which is more than most vendors document about their own undo.

The session loop is published as three ordered steps, read and plan, edit and run, then checkpoint, and the shell tool is documented as running tests, linters and build scripts.

7.0
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis
  1. Stating the loop as a sequence rather than describing capabilities is a meaningful editorial choice, because it tells a reader where verification sits relative to the edit, which is the question that determines whether an agent can catch itself. 2. Naming test and lint execution as the tool's purpose puts the check outside the model.

  2. What is absent is any measurement of how often the check is invoked or acted upon. The design permits verification; nothing published demonstrates that it happens.

La InversoraThe investor

The owner is a listed engineering services firm, and Core, Plus and Max are named with no amounts. The tool is an accelerator for billable work, not a product with a price.

6.3
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

Follow the revenue. A consultancy that sells engineering hours builds an agent to make those hours more productive and to give its salespeople something to demonstrate, so the software does not need standalone margin and will be funded as long as the services business wants it. That is durable, and it also explains the empty price column.

Moat: an existing client list, which is the only moat services firms have ever had. Likely acquirer: none, this stays in-house. Position: low abandonment risk, low pricing transparency, and those come as a pair.

Three tiers with no amounts is contact sales wearing a pricing page, so sixty seats is a quote rather than a number. Against that, it runs headless and the binaries are notarised.

Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

Two things here are genuinely rare and both matter to me. It is documented as running inside scripts and pipelines, which means it can be a measured build step rather than only a thing engineers use, and the macOS binaries are signed and notarised, which removes an argument with my endpoint team before it starts.

What I cannot do is forecast. No published rate means finance gets a range, and a range for sixty seats is not a budget line. Approved with conditions: a fixed quote, a data retention clause, and directory integration confirmed in writing.

The npm package declares its licence as SEE LICENSE IN README.md, which is a licence field doing no work. Ollama is documented, and MCP servers live in .coda/mcp.json.

6.0
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

The model story is better than the source story. A named local runtime among the supported providers means the weights can sit on my hardware and nothing has to reach a vendor endpoint, and my servers register from a JSON file in the project that I can commit and review like any other config. Hooks and skills extend it without a plugin API.

Then I hit the wall: I cannot read a line of it, and a licence pointer into a README is not a licence I can reason about. Good configuration surface, no ownership underneath it.
