Key differences

Local-first personal agent harness with a memory tree, agent fleets and 17 messaging channels

  • Runs local. Open source under GPL-3.0 and free to run with your own provider key or a local Ollama model; an OpenHuman subscription bundles managed inference, Exa web search and media generation
  • Runs local models. Listed for 65 of 194 tools in this category.
  • Runs multiple agents. Listed for 165 of 194 tools in this category.

“Seventeen messaging channels, which is sixteen additional ways to be told the task failed.”

What it is

OpenHuman is a desktop agent runtime that builds a persistent local memory of your data, compressed into Markdown memory trees stored in SQLite and mirrored as an Obsidian vault. It orchestrates fleets of sub-agents on checkpointed graphs, ships a browser, coder and voice toolset, and reaches you over Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal, iMessage and email.

Los Agentes on OpenHuman

Who are they?
The ruling
El JuezThe judge

Four points between El Hacker's GPL fork and La Jefa's data protection file, and the word neither of them disputes is preview.

Trial only
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

Four points separate El Hacker at the top from La Jefa at the bottom. He wants GPL-3.0 on something this personal and an Ollama endpoint behind the firewall. She never reaches the cost line: it ingests employee messages across seventeen channels. El Crítico names the fact under both, that the project labels itself preview.

La Jefa wins on company machines and El Hacker wins on his own, but the row settles it: verified_at is empty, El Profesor found no benchmark and a hosted book for documentation. El Hacker is overruled on readiness. Trial only, on personal accounts you can afford to lose, until the preview label comes off.

Pick OpenHuman if you want an agent that reaches you in the apps you already use all day; pick Letta if you want the memory without also inviting it into your messages.

5.5
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

The trait that decides it is where it lives. This is not another tab you have to remember to open; it reaches you in the messaging apps already on your phone, which is the difference between a personal agent you use and one you install twice and forget. Combined with a memory that builds up locally, it starts to feel like a thing that knows you.

That is also the reason to be careful, because you are handing it a lot. Pick it if a personal daemon appeals and you accept the exposure. Pick Letta for memory with a narrower blast radius.

El CríticoThe critic

A preview-stage personal agent with command execution and a browser, accumulating a database of your life, with no isolation layer named anywhere.

4.8
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

The exposure compounds in three directions at once. It executes commands, it drives a browser with your sessions, and it accumulates a persistent local record of what you do. No container or virtual machine isolation is listed. The project labels itself preview, which is an honest disclosure and also an admission that none of those three surfaces has been hardened yet.

Do not connect it to accounts you cannot afford to lose while it carries that label. What it does right: the memory mirrors into a standard notes vault, so you can read and delete what it knows using a tool you already trust.

Memory is compressed into Markdown trees held in SQLite, and sub-agent fleets execute on checkpointed graphs, so both retention and resumption are explicit mechanisms rather than prompt tricks.

6.0
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis
  1. Context is retained by compressing observations into Markdown trees stored in SQLite, which means the summarisation step is a design decision with a lossy stage a reader can inspect. 2. Sub-agents run over checkpointed graphs, so a long task resumes from its last checkpoint rather than restarting. 3. Toolsets are partitioned by domain into browsing, coding and voice.

Nothing describes what the compression discards, which is the question that determines whether the memory degrades gracefully or confidently. Documentation is a hosted book with no benchmark, and the listing carries no verification date.

La InversoraThe investor

The subscription bundles managed inference, web search and media generation, which means the business is reselling three upstream vendors at a markup you cannot see.

5.3
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

The revenue model is resale. The paid tier bundles managed inference, a commercial search interface and media generation, all three purchased upstream and marked up. That is a real revenue line with structurally thin margins, and it competes against the free path of pointing the same software at your own accounts, which the project itself documents.

Moat: the accumulated personal memory, which is genuine switching cost, and thirty-nine thousand stars of attention as the funnel. Likely pivot: away from resale toward a hosted service where the state lives with them. Position: interesting asset, unproven economics, too early for the cheque.

This reads employee communications across seventeen personal channels, which is a data protection question before it is a tooling question, and the answer is no.

3.8
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

I do not get to the cost line on this one. A tool that ingests an employee's messages across personal and work channels and stores the result creates processing obligations we would have to document, disclose and defend, and it does so on hardware we do not administer. Legal would stop this before finance saw it.

There is no directory integration, no central audit trail, no retention control and no support agreement to attach obligations to. It also has no unattended pipeline role, so there is no upside to weigh against any of it. Not yet, and not on company machines.

GPL-3.0 means a fork stays open, it takes a local Ollama endpoint, it speaks MCP as a client, and there is no published install command, so I clone it anyway.

7.8
Reasoning and trade-offs · AI analysis

GPL-3.0 is the licence I want on something this personal, because any fork has to stay readable and nobody can quietly close it. A local Ollama endpoint is supported, so the model can run on my own hardware and the whole loop stays behind the firewall, which for a system holding this much about me is not a preference but a requirement.

It speaks MCP as a client, so my servers extend it without waiting on anyone. There is no published install command at all, which means cloning and building, which is how I would have installed it regardless.
